Sneezing is Welcome

Lord Murugan and Goddess Valli two of the Hindu Deities in love are to exchange the vows of marriage and as the moment approaches, the priest sneezes. So the divine nuptial is postponed to the following year. This scene is reminiscent of the tradition associated with the aspect of a simple sneeze, a biological re-action that is steeped in tradition. In this blog post, I write about sneezing and what it means to you in terms of cosmics.

Sneezing

Sneezing is an expulsion of air from the lungs through the nose as well as mouth. It is normally considered as a healthy biological re-action. Nevertheless, for those who are around the sneezer it may mean different things and may be even un-healthy if the sneezer does not cover the volley of air and moisture landing on them.

Sneezing though looks very simple is a complicated body re-action, co-ordinated by the sneeze centre located in your brain. It involves muscles in abdomen, chest, vocal chords, diaphragm, throat, mouth, nose and eyelids. While sneezing your heart beats slower, your speech is interrupted, your eyes close and your lungs constrict to expel the air. The speed of sneezing averages between 60 to 120 miles per hour. Strong men record higher speeds than the weaker ones; Sneezing in men is faster than in women; Young have more forceful sneeze than the old do.

Causes

This natural phenomenon is the way the body adjusts to an external cause such as foreign matter or ambience or caused by an internal issue. The following are some of the chief causes:

1. Any foreign particle or irritant being attached to the nasal tract thereby disturbing the mucous membrane

2. Any viral infection or any virus that has made a temporary home in the nasal tract causing swelling and subsequent irritation

3. Dusty ambience

4. Common cold, Flu or Infection in the respiratory track

5. Wearing clothes that are dusty; where dust mites thrive

6. High pollen count in the air

7. Allergy caused by animal dander; hair , feathers, scales of skin and other materials shed from the body by pets , reptiles and others

8. In rare cases when a person eats to a full stomach

9. A person with cold body might start to sneeze when exposed to sunlight or bright artificial light; this is known as photic sneeze

10. A person with hot body might start to sneeze when exposed to cold wind or water.

Precaution

Following guidelines help you in managing sneeze and in improving your life:

1. Always keep a handkerchief or tissue stand by so that you can warp it around the nose to absorb the air and moisture lest it disturbs others

2. Do not close your nose or mouth when sneezing

3. If you have frequent bouts of sneezing do not drive vehicles

4. If you have difficulty in sneezing learn to take deep breath

5. If you get a sensation of sneezing but the actual sneeze does not take place then check your nostrils; at a given time one of the nostrils does intake the air. Smell a pinch of pepper powder via that nostril; sneeze would occur normally. However, do not over-do this.

6. Chronic inability to sneeze may have been caused by an issue in Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT); consult a doctor for necessary medication to facilitate sneezing

7. Frequent or non-stoppable sneeze may have been caused by an issue in ENT or in the functioning of the Brain; consult a doctor for necessary medication for suppression of sneezing

8. Asthmatic persons and those who have allergies must take special care about sneezing.

Cosmics

The following are few of the cosmics related to sneezing; however care must be taken to exclude sneeze occurring due to causes listed under Causes in the above paragraphs:

1. During the divine marriage ceremony between Lord Murugan and Goddess Valli, Hindu Deities in Katatragama, in the south-eastern Ceylon, the moment of exchanging nuptial vows by garlanding each other arrives. All the devotees in the Hindu temple look at the divine couple with bated breath. Then the spook also arrives; the officiating priest sneezes. In the customs of Ceylon sneezing at the time of exchanging nuptial vows is frowned upon and considered as a non-starter. Now that the priest has sneezed the official wedding ceremony is postponed to the following year, so that the devotees can flock to the temple once again. This divine marriage ceremony takes place every year for centuries and had never been consummated

2. When you sneeze once it foretells a negative result; it indicates something going wrong somewhere; your enemy is plotting; your health is not in good shape.

3. When someone else sneezes when you begin to do something the result could be disastrous. When a cat sneezes when you begin to go out, you must postpone the trip; when a man sneezes hold back your steps and breathe in and out for eighteen times before you step out. When a woman sneezes, it heralds protection from the un-known so you can gladly go

4. When you sneeze twice, it means that someone is speaking about you and favourably too

5. When someone else sneezes twice, it means the matter you are thinking about or doing will be completed successfully

6. You or anyone sneezing three times consecutively and stops thereafter heralds good time and joy

7. While travelling or in meeting a person sneezing on your left or behind indicates good omen; likewise a person sneezing on your right or in front indicates a bad omen.
