You get into mood
of despondency when you see everything you do is either nonstarter or ends in
miserable failure. You tend to throw up your arms and blame everyone for your
state of despair. Have you ever thought of the idea that you are the one who
should shoulder responsibility for your affairs? Did you ever investigate the
reasons for your repeat failures? May be
something going wrong in you. Here are few tips to make things work for you.
Firstly stop
blaming others or your stars for unfavourable incidents happening to you and
around you. For example, you are driving and the guy coming behind your car is
honking ceaselessly. You tend to swear or blame the guy for his impatience. May
be you are driving slowly in the lane you are in or maybe he is in mighty hurry
to pass you over. If you allow him to overtake you and analyse the situation
you will find that your body and mind are not properly synced at that moment.
Secondly you
must learn the right lessons each time you fail. Mere learning and experiencing
is not the solution. You must understand what exactly happened and find the
right reasons for things not happening as you wished. A good illustration is your
promotional interview. Each time you meet the panel of interviewers, you come
out with the idea that you have done the best and each time the result is that you
did not make the grade. Splitting hairs and breaking sleep is not the answer. Neither
drinking heavily nor punching the air could solve your problem. Think smart.
Speak to one of the panel members privately and find out where you have failed
and how you can make amends.
Thirdly, never
allow your spirit to go down. It does not mean that being low-spirited must be
shunned all the time. That is not practical at all. Sometimes low spirit can
help in avoiding unnecessary issues. For example you had someone in the club
smarting for a duel with you last evening and you did not take the challenge. This has helped you in keeping out of trouble.
But if you are having bouts of low regularly then you need to do something
urgently to heighten your spirit. To do so you must find out what makes your
sprit up and what makes your spirit down. Spend more time in getting the spirit
up and running.
Fourth and
final step is to analyse your body, mind and spirit. Take a vacation. Go to a distant land where you can be free of
worries and all that rough and tumble of office work. Now reflect on your
progress, the impediments and the way you can bring about coordination between
body, mind and spirit. One exercise you can do is to have a stroll in the park
and count the number of trees from one end to another. When it is over write
down the number in your note book. Now start walking back the same way and
count the trees without looking at the notebook. Again write it down in the
notebook. Sit down somewhere and compare whether the figures tally. Also think
of the experience of counting and the pleasure you had doing so in your
childhood when you went sauntering with your dad decades ago.
