How to Promote Dream Sleep?

You know about sleep cycle. Dream sleep is one part of the sleep cycle where you tend to dream a lot. Promoting dream sleep makes you happy and contended. Here is a brief on dream sleep and how to promote it.

Dream Sleep

Accounting for about 20 to 25% of your sleep time, dream sleep pedals you to the stage where you see succession of images, ideas, emotions, sentiments in vocal or dumb form. You see clear or vague sequences of dream that lasts something like 5 to 20 minutes at a stretch. The sequences vary in time length and in numbers. You have rapid eye movements, where your eyes move as if you are travelling. Hence, this stage is known in science as “Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep”.

Except for this rapid movement of eyes most of your body is in paralysis. As you start dreaming, the brain releases an amino acid called Glycine that makes your muscles immobile. This is the nature’s way of safeguarding, otherwise while you dream you may tend to act out of it. You will experience this paralysis particularly in the chin to neck area. However, occasional twitching of muscle takes place in face, fingers and sometimes in your legs.

Your brain sends irregular alpha waves at phenomenal speed accelerating to about 8 to 13 cycles per second. Your heart-rate spirals up and you need more oxygen to support this rise. Your body temperature is up, accompanied perhaps with sweating. Both pulse and breathing go haywire. Ironically, your sexual organs are erected or aroused. So is your contentment.

Promoting Dream Sleep

Melatonin is the key hormone that promotes dream sleep as well as controls sleep cycle. Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin B 6 (Pyridoxine) also have a hand in facilitating rest and sound sleep, which in turn induces dreams. You can savour bananas, oranges, pineapples and tomatoes to get more Melatonin while grains, beans, figs and avocados have more Magnesium. Mushroom, beans, pumpkin and spinach are good source of Zinc. Pyridoxine is ample in wheat germ, soya, sunflower seeds and dried prunes.

Lighting and signal emission are critical areas affecting dream sleep. By the way, Pineal gland that produces melatonin increases the production while you are in moderately lit ambience. Therefore, to have dream sleep your bedroom must be lit appropriately. If you are using LED lighting, opt for cool white variety whereas candescent lamp must beam yellow light. Receiving and emitting signals by instruments interfere with dream sleep cycle. Other than your mobile, remove electronic instruments including TVs, radios and modems. Additionally you have to attend to the colour of curtains as well. Dark colours must be consigned to windows on eastward and light colours hanged in the west side.

Use of cosmic gems in inducing dream sleep cannot be underestimated. If your Melatonin production is low, lodestone is definite must. Keep this over your bed head while sleeping. You must also select one or two cosmic gems to supplement much-needed cosmics to make you sleep and dream well. From a host of gems & crystals you can handpick aventurine, agate, danburite, dioptase, lepidolite, malachite, mookaite, prehnite and rhodochrosite. There is one caveat: in choosing the right cosmic gems that work best for you, it is better to take good counsel.
