The annual Jupiter Sun conjunction takes place at 12.00 UTC/GMT time on February 28, 2010. You can trace your local time in reference to this. Bracing together for few moments these two planets are in Aquarius constellation at the time the event occurs. They have company of planets and stars; the location of their meeting is auspicious too. In this blog I write about the Jupiter Sun Conjunction February 2010 in terms of astronomy, stars and related cosmics in order to help you improving your life.
Astronomy
1. The conjunction takes place where Aquarius hugs the jug. In Greek mythology Aquarius is Ganymede whose job is to pour divine nectar called ambrosia to the Gods out of the jug he carries.
2. The Sun enters Aquarius constellation on February 16 and meets up with Jupiter having located itself at Right Ascension (Celestial Longitude) of 22 hours, 45 minutes and 20 seconds and at the Declination (Celestial Latitude) of South 7 degree, 53 minutes and 58 seconds. After the meeting the Sun is expected to leave Aquarius on March 11, for its pleasure spot of Pisces constellation
3. The planet Jupiter enters Aquarius constellation on January 6 and meets up with the Sun having located itself at Right Ascension (Celestial Longitude) of 22 hours, 46 minutes and 38 seconds and at the Declination (Celestial Latitude) of South 8 degree, 46 minutes and 40 seconds. After the meeting Jupiter will be hanging around in Aquarius till May 4, whence it moves to its home turf of Pisces constellation.
4. Both these planets have company from the planetary kingdom; Venus to the East and Mercury to the west both located at Aquarius constellation at that time
5. Both these planets have company of great stars as well. These stars are: Hydor to the East; Ancha to the West; Situla on the North; finally Sigma Aquarius towards South-east.
Stars
1. Hydor
Astronomically known as Lambda Aquari, Hydor is a variable star located at the bend of the steam of water or ambrosia, whichever pouring out of the Jar, the water carrier Aquarius holds. The Latin name Hydor means “water”. It is also known as “Ekkhysis” from Greek meaning “outpouring”. Belonging to the class of M 2 III, it is a red giant giving bright red hue. It is 390 light years away and has visual magnitude of 3.73. Rotating away from the Earth one mile per second it is a slow moving star sitting on the elliptical path. This star is surrounded by about 100 tiny stars. In Hindu mythology, the star Hydor symbolizes the God Varuna, who has several roles to play: the god of ocean and water; the deity of the Moon; the guardian of Western direction; the god who can revive the dead; Varuna is also classified as Ashura and Deva in Hindu mythology. The surrounding stars are 100 Adityas, celestial bodies born out of Goddess Adithi known for their skills as physicians
2. Ancha
Astronomically known as Theta Aquari, Ancha is located on the right rib of the water carrier. The name Ancha is derived from Latin to mean haunch and takes affinity to old French “hanche”. Belonging to the spectral class of G8 III, it is a yellow giant giving fantastic yellow light. It is 191 light years away and has visual magnitude of 4.17. Rotating away from the Earth nine miles per second it is on the ecliptical path. Often it is occulted (overshadowed) by the Moon and rarely by other planets. It is cooler than our Sun with about 5000 Kelvin surface heat
3. Situla
Astronomically known as Kappa Aquari, Situla is located on the top of the conical water jug. The name Situla is derived from classical Latin to mean water jug, urn or a bucket. The Arabic word “Al-Satl” seems to be more appropriate. Belonging to the spectral class of K2 III, it is a giant and cool star giving crimson hue. It is 234 light years away and has visual magnitude of 5.04. Rotating towards the Earth about five miles per second it is a binary star. Situla A is fairly hot with 4,550 Kelvin surface temperature and an orange k type giant whereas Situla B is fairly red and faint with a visual magnitude of 8.8. The combined effect leaves a crimson red colour emanating from the two stars
4. Sigma Aquarius
Astronomically it is Sigma Aquari and goes without a proper name. It is a binary white sub giant with the spectral class of A0 IVs. Its companion star is also white hence the brightness and whiteness of Sigma Aquarius makes it a notable star in the heaven. Located 265 light years away Sigma Aquarius is rotating towards the Earth Just about 7 mile per second.
All four stars can be easily traced in the following picture: Hydor is shown as “y” typed on reverse; Ancha is shown to the right close to Rho (p); Situla is sown up as “k” on top; Sigma Aquarius is shown on the bottom of the four stars square.
