Is your child weak in Mathematics?

For many parents mathematics is a perennial problem when they were in school and now in their family. Their children are weak in mathematics. How to get about? Hire a tutor or blast the maths teacher. Before doing anything they should do their own homework. In this blog post I explain the problem, diagnostics and a solution package consisting amongst others the idea of harnessing the cosmics of their children.

Problem

You should blame the ancient Babylonians who invented the art of mathematics way back in 1,600 B.C. Now you should hang them because they spread it to India and China in the East and Greece and Arabia in the west. So we have this subject called maths shaping our lives forever. Without maths no progress could have been made in science and technology.

Most children develop negative or positive attitudes towards the subject of mathematics. It begins somewhere when they are thirteen and goes till they reach nineteen. In most cases boys would attempt sums albeit reluctantly. On the other hand, girls may show explicit antipathy towards maths. There are exceptions where boys and girls show tremendous ability to solve maths problems. After the teen age is passed boys and girls should stabilize in their ability in maths and reinforce either positive or negative attitude towards this subject. Both ability and attitude could vary a lot amongst the sexes.

Diagnostics

Parents whose children are below the age of thirteen should not unduly bother about marks obtained by their children. As teen sets, they should identify the malady and the causes.

Malady

The malady appears in one of the three forms:

1. Maths Anxiety: This is seen amongst majority of the children just before the maths class or exam. It is seen rather mutedly when they attempt their maths as homework

2. Maths Phobia: This is much more severe than the anxiety syndrome where the children fear learning maths or doing any sums in class, exam or as homework

3. Maths Hatred: This is serious malady where the children simply hate maths and would shy away from the class, exam or as homework

Causes

There are several causes for these maladies to develop in the children:

1. Deficiency of vitamins and nutrients that function in developing brain power is a major cause. In good old days we were given the cod liver capsules and mum said it give the answers to the maths sums. Nowadays, it is better to consult a paediatrician if the children are weak in brain power

2. Lack of sleep is a key cause that makes children to funk in maths; children below thirteen years of age should sleep for 11 to 12 hours; teens need about 9 to 10 hours. At sleep children are in fact active; their bodies continue the function of producing & releasing hormones and replacing body cells. Not only that sleep makes children and teens grow

3. Lack of sports is an important cause. Today children wish to spend more time watching television or surfing computers. Sometimes they take pleasure in doing computer games rather than physically taking parts in sports

4. Deficiency in love by parents is yet another cause. Many children who are denied parental love and care show dislike towards solving any problems at home or outside. A key manifestation is their refusal to do any maths sum

5. Lack of learning methods is a cause that has come to the attention of analysts very recently. Teachers of maths choose a single type of methodology to teach maths to a class consisting of children with varying level of skills in maths or attitude towards maths. Although they show individual attention such attention does not elicit the expected results.

6. Lastly, Cosmics of an individual child is a cause that remains unexplored by many parents. Cosmics deal with the characteristics of a child at the time of his birth. Even after the above five causes are eliminated still many children would continue to suffer from the maladies relating to maths if attention is not paid to their cosmics.

Solutions

1. Show your child to a paediatrician and get his advice

2. Observe the sleeping pattern and timing of your child carefully over a period preferably a fortnight. Make him to go to sleep early; avoid unnecessary entertainment including getting glued to TV; monitor your child as regards to what he consumes before going to sleep. You should guard against alcohol, drugs and others that harm your child

3. Encourage your child to take part in sports and games at the same time you should not allow him doing rigorous physical exercises that are not meant for children

4. Both parents or in the case of single parent family one parent should shower love and affection over the child. You can sit with him and cajole or support him. You can also attempt a maths sum yourself and fail. He will take it up and arrive at the right solution and flaunt it. You go cheers and the work continues

5. Find out what methodology works best for your child. Some like rote learning; some prefer gradual process of doing the easy one first and the harder ones later; some go see-saw in handling both easy and hard sums together; some like to work constantly whereas others work with intervals between; some are highly organized others are not so organized but will finish the work some or other. You select the method that goes well with the child and inform his maths teacher as well. However, in all these scenarios you have to teach your child one thing: Practice makes perfect

6. Understand the cosmics of your child; you need to find out his birth characteristics such as his elements, temperament, beliefs, attitude and behaviour. One way to find out these is to check the position of the Moon at the time of his birth; its day, lunation cycle, constellation and star. Afterwards you can fine tune a solution that turns his cosmics to work for him. Few general recommendations are given below.

Cosmic Recommendations

1. Let your child take bath, shower or swim on a Wednesday morning or Tuesday evening

2. Start the study of maths in the morning on a Wednesday immediately after sun rise

3. Watch the Geminid Meteor Showers during December

4. Keep a rock crystal on the side of the bed or at the study table of your child

5. Image of an eagle in picture or small ceramic statuette be kept close to your child in his bed room or study room

6. Honey from Turkey known as “Fer Ozel Bali” with onion juice in little quantity be administered before bed time or Honey from Australia known as “Karri” with cocoa powder in little quantity be given in the morning after breakfast.
