Are you a Dissembler or Revealer?

It is common understanding that you cannot trust a person who tells nothing about himself. By the same token, neither you can trust a person who reveals everything about him. Trust worthy people are from the middle road, who tell what is necessary to be told and hides what must kept as secret. Here is a preview of these personalities.

Dissembler:     Machiavelli came up with one of his famous dictum: “Be feigner and dissembler”. What he meant was that rulers, administrators and managers must never reveal their thoughts, feelings, facts, and intention and the top of it their identity. As a person who tells nothing about himself a dissembler often camouflages his identity in such manner that he can beguile you to believe that his intentions are noble.  Concealing facts and history is only a minor skill in them. They possess much more complex talent in that, they can easily lead you to make wrong moves that can cost you dearly. Charming, affectionate and as smooth and sweet talker dissemblers fill professions of espionage, politics, marketing, strategy management, business planning and show business.

Revealer:        Happy go lucky character, a revealer gets a great deal of mental satisfaction in telling everything about him and others. Discretion is not something they ever stick to. At the drop of the hat, they start to rattle stories about personal affairs as well as matters in public domain without distinguishing the need to uphold privacy or decorum between these. They go to pubs and public places and rant about any matter under the sun if they are angry or glorify personalities if they are delighted. Telling others about their ideas, feelings, emotions they reveal everything, consequently many people tend to shun them. Talk show hosts are in this category.

Middle Roader:          They express well, speaks to the point and effective in communication. More often, they are anchored on the footing that say what is relevant and necessary. In management parlance this is often known as ”need to know” basis. When I say this, it does not mean that they are coming out with a clean breast, never. They tend to keep secrets close to the chest and adopt a mixture of tactics.  One method is being selective in praise and criticism. Another is to use judgemental form where they give constructive criticism. Third one is to render effusive appreciation of the conduct or achievement of the other. Most human resource personnel are from the middle road.

Check which one relates to you best, in terms of your current vocation or calling and thereafter assess the degree of success you have being either of dissembler, revealer or middle-roader. If your performance is not up to the mark then go for a thorough analysis of your mind to find how you can improve your prospects.

Go ahead!
